In the past I remember all of the different hairstyles that I would wear for this special Holiday!!! Not only is it Valentine's day for me and my hubby, but it is also our anniversary. This year we will be celebrating eleven years.
Usually I would have some type of hairstyle that would involve the original fried, dyed, and layed to the side. But this year of course is different. During the three years that I went natural '03-'06 I was sure to have micro's, kinky twists or some sort of extension. I must say that with having Sisterlocks I truly feel comfortable with my hairstyle. You know how we ladies are, we like to look extra special during those special occasions. In the past before our days of going natural, some of us did not know what to do. It's a shame, but I must admit that I would not even go outside if my hair was not fixed. It had to be styled, but even worse I HAD to have some extensions in my hair. I remember when I was a teenager, I said to my sister, "This is ridiculous, if I don't have braids, then I have to have tracks of some sort or another! I should be able to wear my OWN hair without feeling it needs to have something in it." So you see I was not only addicted to the lye, but I was addicted to extensions that expressed a LIE too. It just was not the REAL me. I must say that '03-'06 I went seven months straight without wearing any extensions. It felt liberating. I went from a shaved head, to a TWA, to a huge shaking afro. I really enjoyed those days. I remember people asking if I had a texturizer, and I would just explain that it was the beauty of OUR natural hair. It was as if we went through an era of "slap a track in it." It really started to feel disgusting. Well anyway I hope that everyone has an awesome Valentine's. I pray that you will enjoy love, whether it's Eros, Agape, or even self love. Just enjoy this time to appreciate love. Here is a picture of a hairstyle seven years ago when I was four months pregnant with my youngest daughter. I was a lye addict! Much love for everyone. Continue to LOCK ON! Peace out!
